Free VPAT template vs. VPAT generator

The VPAT® (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template) is published free by the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI). The current version, VPAT 2.5, comes in four editions: WCAG (WCAG 2.2), Section 508 (U.S. federal procurement), EU (EN 301 549) and International (all three). You can download the blank template from ITI and fill it in yourself.

This generator helps you fill it in. It follows the WCAG-edition layout, covers the 49 WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA criteria, and turns your answers into a print-ready Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR). The first 10 criteria are free; the completed report is $79 one-time. For the Section 508, EU or International editions, use ITI’s template or our audit service.

How to fill in a VPAT

  1. Decide the scope: the product, version and edition, and the date you tested.
  2. Test against each criterion: automated scanning finds some issues; keyboard and screen-reader testing find the rest.
  3. Answer honestly: use Supports, Partially Supports, Does Not Support or Not Applicable, and explain gaps in the remarks. A report that says “Supports” everywhere raises questions with buyers.
  4. Keep it current: update the report after major releases, or at least once a year.
